THIS POSITION WILL CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE WHEN A MAXIMUM NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS HAS BEEN RECEIVED Under the direction of the Parks Operations Supervisor, or assigned management, perform skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of City irrigation systems to assure proper irrigation of landscaped areas; clean, maintain and repair the municipal swimming pool, surrounding areas and related equipment to assure safe and sanitary conditions. Test, repair and perform routine maintenance on Backflow Prevention Devices. Example of Duties: ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Perform skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of City irrigation systems to assure proper irrigation of landscaped areas; interpret and work from blueprints, plans, schematic drawings and sketches. Clean, maintain and repair the municipal swimming pool, surrounding areas and related equipment to assure safe and sanitary conditions. Including, conducting daily inspections of pool water for proper chemical balances; conduct chemical tests of water; apply chemicals as appropriate to maintain proper pH and chemistry levels; assure safety of pool water. Monitor settings and operation of sprinklers and controllers; program and reprogram irrigation schedules utilizing computerized timers and clocks; check lawns and fields to assure proper moisture content according to established standards. Estimate labor, materials and equipment needed for various projects; monitor inventory levels of parts, supplies and equipment; order, receive and maintain inventory of parts, supplies and equipment. Maintain swimming pool on a regular basis; brush and vacuum pool, hose down surrounding decks and backwash filters for water clarity; clear pool drains, gutters, and deck drains; inspect, maintain, repair and replace a variety of pool related equipment. Inspect irrigation systems to assure proper operation; troubleshoot malfunctions and make repairs to irrigation systems, electrical controllers, lines valves, various sprinkler heads and irrigation pumps. Plan, lay out, assemble, install, maintain and repair City sprinkler and irrigation systems; clean, adjust and repair sprinkler heads; test water systems for high and low pressure; test sprinkler and irrigation systems for leaks. Install, repair and replace backflow devices, irrigation lines, valves, controllers and sprinkler heads; measure, cut, thread and install pipes, tubing and a variety of sprinkler and irrigation fixtures. Operate a variety of power-driven equipment, testers, gauges and small hand and power tools; drive a vehicle to conduct work. Prepare swimming pool and surrounding areas for swim meets and other athletic events; set up swim lanes and other athletic equipment. Communicate with City personnel and various outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns. Maintain records related to backflow maintenance, inventory, irrigation schedules and assigned activities. Inspect, repair, and maintain city playgrounds. OTHER DUTIES: Perform related duties as assigned. Exercise technical or functional supervision of other full-time, part-time or volunteer workers as assigned. Typical Qualifications: KNOWLEDGE OF: Methods, procedures, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, cleaning and repair of swimming pools. Techniques, practices, procedures, supplies, tools and equipment used in the installation, repair and maintenance of sprinklers and irrigation systems. Operation of a variety of power-driven equipment, testers, gauges and small hand and power tools. Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies. Principles, practices and maintenance of electronic irrigation controllers used in irrigation systems. Health and safety regulations. Basic principles and practices of plumbing and electricity. Shop math applicable to the assigned trades. Proper chemistry of swimming pool water. Oral and written communication skills. Principles of water flow. Record-keeping techniques. Proper lifting techniques. Playground inspection, repairs, record keeping. ABILITY TO: Perform skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of City irrigation systems to assure proper irrigation of landscaped areas. Clean, maintain and repair the municipal swimming pool, surrounding areas and related equipment to assure safe and sanitary conditions. Interpret and work from blueprints, plans, schematic drawings and sketches. Inspect, install, maintain, repair and replace a variety of pool and irrigation equipment. Inspect existing irrigation systems to assure proper operation. Maintain proper chemistry of swimming pool water. Estimate and order required supplies and equipment. Troubleshoot and repair high and low voltage electrical irrigation pumps. Operate a variety of power-driven equipment, testers, gauges and small hand and power tools Observe health and safety regulations. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Work independently with little direction. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Work cooperatively with others. Make mathematical calculations. Maintain records related to work performed. Meet schedules and time lines. Perform heavy physical labor. Report to work every scheduled workday. Supplemental Information: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by completion of an approved apprenticeship program and three years increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of swimming pools, irrigation systems and playgrounds. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California Class C driver's license. Valid Backflow Certification. (Within 12 months of date of hire) Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification. (Within 12 months of date of hire) WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Outdoor work environment.
